Or maybe you’re afraid speaker training will strip you of your natural charisma.

Maybe you’re a “fly by the seat of your pants” gal who had a stint with Toastmasters. Someone could throw a topic and you were pretty good, but you...

… had no clue how it was gonna come out.

… had to police yourself from going on a tangent

.... occasionally got lost in your content, which was stressful.

To my natural charismatic showstoppers: there’s a major difference between being entertaining and impactful.

But if you’ve got the entertainment piece down, just wait til you start structuring your talks so you say the right things at the optimal moments for impact.

What you need:

a repeatable framework for how to structure a talk. And an understanding of WHEN to tell WHAT type of story and WHY.

This is the belief that hears “I know in my heart, I’m meant for something big” but then tells you “by next year you’ll be ready.”

It’s single-handedly responsible for the gut-punching discomfort that creeps up when others shine brighter than you. Friend: waiting isn’t necessary. In fact, I strongly advise against it.

People who are out there being visible don’t have their sh*t together more than you do. They’re just as scared.

But what they DO have is someone who taught them how to get closer to their dream stages, and then pushed them to make sure they did it.

What you need:

a speaking strategy for which stages you’ll hit (starting with the virtual ones), pitching templates to help you book them, and a coach who’s half cheerleader, half woman who lights a freaking fire under your butt.

I’ve heard it before (in fact I might’ve said it):

“But I’m a typical suburban mom who doesn’t have any epic stories. Literally, this morning I cleaned up dog poo and fed my kids Go-gurt for breakfast.”

Swap Go-gurt for Annie’s Bunnies crackers, and I’m right there with ya.

Here’s the thing. We all have interesting stories to share. And people like me exist to help you find them.

What you need:

stop telling yourself you don't have interesting stories. You do! You’ll also need a few story-extracting strategies so you can start plucking 3 or 4 stories per “average scenario.” Plus skills to weave these into causal speaking settings like Q&As, panels, etc.

Great! Then there’s a market for what you’re offering.

Also, I don’t know anyone who teaches this mythical “original content.” Everything is based off something that exists — then you put your unique spin on it. 

No one out there is some groundbreaking Einstein of your industry. People just take what they’re doing, find what’s unique about it, then give it a name.

Bip. Bap. Boop. 

You have a framework in you right now. You just need someone to help you make sense of it. Which is necessary if your audience is gonna follow what you’re saying, because if one thing’s true, it’s this: 

you can’t build a million dollar business off of thoughts and ideas that don’t make sense to other people.

What you need:

A step-by-step for turning your ideas into language that audiences eat up. Something that gives you instant perceived credibility and makes “talking about what you know” a heckuva lot more exciting.

I also frantically push Zoom meetings by 10 minutes, as I run late from picking my kids up from daycare.

as well as time-starved CEOs who are calendared out from the moment they wake up (which is usually before the sun).

I’ll give it to ya straight:
You’ll need to carve out 3-5 hours every week over the next 12 weeks to do your diligence inside Speak Up to Level Up. You COULD make great strides with 2-4 hours, but the high-achievers I attract usually want to do it right when they invest.

Anything worthwhile will take time upfront. And though I’m not into marketing that’s all “get results fast!” — at the end of the day, it’s truthful to say: speaking is a career-accelerator.

On my end, I keep the content as fluff-less and to-the-point as possible. 

Yes. Though a lot of the Speak Up to Level Up alum are getting paid to speak (because that’s what they wanted), there are a ton of them who don’t want that.

Some of my students just want to sound smart and credible when it comes to their business.

Some want to make sure their free content delivers bigger value.

The coolest thing that’s about to happen for you is all the content you need in your business — is about to be taken off your plate.

You’ll be able to deconstruct the signature talk you create inside the program, and use it for email content, website copy, workshop content, stories you tell on podcasts, social media content and captions etc.

he world around us is getting more and more digital by the day. And my training is an evolution of that. Speaking is 100% learnable in a digital setting. What I can’t hold you to inside a digital setting, however, is how much you practice.

That’s up to you.

But it’s the same deal I give my clients who work with me virtually 1:1. You can watch the video lessons or meet with me on Zoom all the livelong day, but the real progress with your speaking happens while you’re practicing out loud on your own.

So as long as you take in the lessons, digitally. But then open your mouth every single day in real life — you’re golden.

There’s a really crappy way to sell from the stage. I see it a lot, and I’m rolling my eyes right there with you.

If you feel like selling from the stage is sleazy it’s because someone sold you from the stage in a sleazy way. And THAT’s not what we do around here.

Side tangent: most of those programs are taught by dudes, and (though I love men, particularly my hubby, James) their style of dude-selling doesn’t work with women. Learn how to speak and persuade from a fellow female.

To give you an idea, here’s something I really value (you too?):

Presentations that aren’t just fluff that talk about “the why” behind something, just so the presenter can sell you their stuff. That’s very old school to me.

I like a presentation that gives the audience practical tools they can implement right away. That’s why even my webinars are not the standard “this is for you if,” then go into the great opportunity that awaits you, then spring an expensive offer on you as the only way to achieve your outcome. 

Actually, you’re the perfect candidate. There are ways to get you even better at your gift for gab. Or create free content that’s even more impactful than it is currently

Everybody gets those nervous feelings before they take a stage no matter what. Even me. But the chicken-before-the-egg-sitch about speaking is this: the only way to get comfortable doing it — is to do it while you’re uncomfortable.
